Light: In Phoenix, provide morning sun and afternoon shade or bright filtered light; avoid intense reflected heat and harsh summer afternoon sun.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then let soil dry thoroughly; provide occasional supplemental summer irrigation during prolonged drought. Reduce watering sharply in winter.

Soil: Excellent drainage is essential; use sandy or gravelly soil or a gritty cactus mix. Plant on a mound or in a raised bed where native soil drains poorly.

Mature size: Typically 1–2 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide, excluding the flower stalk.

Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, often after 10–20 years or longer. The flowering rosette dies afterward; any offsets can survive.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow.
