Light: In Phoenix, provide morning sun and afternoon shade or bright filtered light. Avoid intense reflected heat and exposed western locations.
Water: Water deeply, then let the root zone dry before watering again. Supplemental irrigation is usually needed during Phoenix’s prolonged heat; avoid frequent shallow watering and water collecting in the crown.
Soil: Sharply drained, gravelly or rocky soil. Use a raised mound where drainage is poor; avoid heavy, persistently wet soil.
Mature size: Approximately 3–5 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide, excluding the flower stalk.
Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, usually after many years to several decades. The flowering rosette then dies.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow; growth may stall during extreme summer heat.
