Light: Morning sun with filtered afternoon shade is best in Phoenix, especially for young trees. Acclimate gradually to stronger sun; protect from intense western exposure.
Water: Water deeply, then allow the upper few inches of soil to dry before watering again. Young trees need frequent monitoring during summer heat. Reduce watering in winter; avoid constantly wet roots.
Soil: Well-drained soil, ideally slightly acidic to neutral. Phoenix’s alkaline soil may cause nutrient deficiencies. Plant on a broad mound if drainage is poor, and mulch while keeping the trunk clear.
