Plumeria rubra
Light: At least 6 hours of sun for good flowering; morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal in Phoenix. Acclimate gradually to intense sun and avoid reflected heat.
Water: Water deeply during active growth, then let the upper several inches of soil dry before watering again. Reduce watering in fall; keep nearly dry during cool, leafless dormancy.
Soil: Very well-drained soil; use a coarse container mix amended with pumice or perlite. Avoid heavy clay and standing water.
Mature size: Typically 10–20 feet tall and wide in frost-free ground conditions; often maintained at 4–8 feet tall in containers.
Bloom: Clusters appear from late spring through summer, often continuing into fall while temperatures remain warm.
Evergreen / deciduous: Deciduous; normally drops leaves during cool weather or drought and resumes growth in spring.
Growth rate: Moderate during warm weather; little or no growth during winter dormancy.
