Light: Full sun to light shade; acclimate nursery-grown plants gradually to intense Phoenix sun.
Water: Low water once established. Water deeply but infrequently during warm weather, allowing soil to dry thoroughly between waterings; keep mostly dry in winter.
Soil: Very well-drained sandy or gravelly soil; use raised planting areas where native soil drains poorly.
Mature size: Typically 10–20 feet tall and 3–6 feet wide as a clump; individual stems are approximately 4–8 inches thick.
Bloom: Typically blooms in spring to early summer on mature plants; flowering may be sporadic in cultivation.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen succulent; green stems provide year-round color.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate; faster during warm weather with appropriate supplemental water.
