Light: Full sun, ideally at least 6–8 hours daily. Some late-afternoon shade can reduce stress during extreme Phoenix summer heat.
Water: Moderate to high water needs in Phoenix. Irrigate deeply across the root zone, increasing frequency during fruit development and summer heat. Let the soil surface dry slightly between waterings, but avoid prolonged root-zone dryness.
Soil: Deep, well-drained soil; sandy loam is ideal. Tolerates varied soils if drainage is good. Phoenix alkaline soils may cause iron deficiency; avoid planting over an impermeable caliche layer.
Mature size: Approximately 15–20 feet tall and wide on standard rootstock; rootstock and pruning affect size. Can be maintained around 10–12 feet tall with regular pruning.
Bloom: Late winter to early spring, often February in Phoenix, depending on winter temperatures. Fruit generally ripens in April–May locally.
