Light: Full sun; allow ample space for an unobstructed canopy.
Water: Water newly planted palms deeply and regularly while roots establish, keeping soil moist but not saturated. Established palms need deep irrigation during Phoenix’s hot months, especially for fruit production; reduce frequency in winter. Allow the upper soil to dry between irrigations.
Soil: Deep, well-drained sandy loam is ideal. Tolerates alkaline soils and some salinity, but avoid standing water and compacted, poorly drained sites.
Mature size: Typically 50–80 feet tall and 20–30 feet wide; very old specimens may grow taller.
Bloom: Flowers in spring; pollinated dates generally ripen in fall. Fruiting begins after establishment and sufficient maturity, with timing depending on planting size and propagation method.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate; faster with adequate heat, irrigation, and nutrition.
