Agave americana 'Cameron Blue'
Light: Full sun to light shade; light afternoon shade can reduce scorching in Phoenix’s hottest exposures. Acclimate nursery-grown plants gradually to direct sun.
Water: Low water once established. Water deeply but infrequently during prolonged summer drought, allowing soil to dry thoroughly between waterings. Reduce watering substantially in winter; avoid wetting the crown.
Soil: Very well-drained sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil. Tolerates alkaline desert soils; use raised planting areas where drainage is poor.
Mature size: Approximately 4–6 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide per rosette; may grow larger under favorable conditions. Offsets can form a broader colony.
Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, commonly after 10–30 years, depending on growing conditions. The flowering rosette dies afterward, but offsets usually survive.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate; faster with warmth and occasional deep watering.
