Light: Bright filtered shade; gentle early-morning sun only. Protect from afternoon sun, reflected heat, and hot, drying winds.
Water: Keep the root zone evenly moist but never waterlogged. Check frequently during summer, especially in containers; do not allow the root ball to dry completely. Low-salinity water is preferred.
Soil: Rich, well-drained, acidic soil with a pH around 5.5–6.5. In Phoenix, a container with an acidic camellia mix is generally more practical than planting in alkaline native soil.
Mature size: Approximately 6–10 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide over time; usually smaller in containers.
Bloom: Late winter through spring; Phoenix heat and growing conditions can shorten or disrupt flowering.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate; often slow under Phoenix conditions.
