Light: Full sun; thrives in Phoenix heat once established. Acclimate nursery-grown palms gradually to intense desert sun.
Water: Deeply water newly planted palms regularly. Once established, allow the upper several inches of soil to dry between deep irrigations; supplemental summer water supports healthy growth in Phoenix. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil: Well-drained sandy or loamy soil; tolerates alkaline soil but dislikes standing water. Check drainage carefully where caliche is present.
Mature size: Typically 30–50 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide in cultivated landscapes; may grow taller under favorable conditions.
Bloom: Small, inconspicuous flowers appear on mature palms, generally in spring or summer; male and female flowers grow on separate plants.
