Light: Full sun; provide at least 6 hours of direct sun for strong flowering. Light afternoon shade can help in reflected-heat locations.
Water: Low to moderate water once established. Water deeply, then allow soil to dry between waterings; irrigate more frequently during establishment and extreme summer heat. Avoid constantly wet roots.
Soil: Well-drained sandy or gravelly soil. Tolerates alkaline soil but may develop iron chlorosis; avoid poorly drained clay and use freely draining potting mix in containers.
Mature size: Typically 15–20 feet tall and 10–15 feet wide with support; cultivar, frost, and pruning affect size.
Bloom: Repeated flowering flushes from spring through fall; flowering may continue into winter in frost-free locations.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen in frost-free conditions; may become semi-evergreen or drop leaves during Phoenix cold spells or drought.
Growth rate: Fast in warm weather with adequate moisture.
