Light: Full sun to light shade; afternoon shade is beneficial in Phoenix, especially near heat-reflecting walls. Acclimate gradually to direct sun.
Water: Low water; water deeply but infrequently during warm weather, allowing soil to dry completely between waterings. Keep nearly dry in winter.
Soil: Very well-drained, sandy or gravelly soil. Use a gritty cactus mix for containers and avoid locations where water collects.
Mature size: Approximately 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide.
Bloom: Occasional blooms in late spring to early summer on established plants; flowering is less reliable in containers.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate, with most growth during warm weather.
