Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade; protect from intense western sun and reflected heat.
Water: Moderate to high water needs in Phoenix heat. Water deeply when the top 1–2 inches of soil begin to dry; keep the root zone evenly moist but never soggy. Containers may need daily checks in summer. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil: Well-drained, organically enriched soil, preferably slightly acidic to neutral. Mulch the root zone, keeping mulch away from the trunk.
Mature size: Typically 4–8 feet tall and 3–6 feet wide in sheltered landscapes; size varies with the orange-flowered selection, pruning, and frost exposure.
Bloom: Repeated blooms from spring through fall; flowering may slow during extreme summer heat and winter cold.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen in frost-free conditions; may lose leaves or suffer stem dieback during Phoenix cold snaps.
Growth rate: Moderate to fast with warmth, regular moisture, and appropriate feeding.
