Light: Full sun, preferably at least 6 hours daily. Light afternoon shade can reduce heat stress in Phoenix; avoid intense reflected heat.
Water: Moderate water use in Phoenix. Water deeply and regularly during establishment; once established, irrigate deeply during hot, dry weather, allowing the upper several inches of soil to dry between waterings.
Soil: Well-drained soil; tolerates clay, loam, or sand if drainage is adequate. Phoenix’s highly alkaline soils may cause iron chlorosis. Mulch the root zone, keeping mulch away from the trunk.
Mature size: Approximately 20–30 feet tall and 15–20 feet wide.
Bloom: Late spring through summer, often continuing into early fall with sufficient moisture. Flowers on new growth.
Evergreen / deciduous: Deciduous.
Growth rate: Fast with adequate irrigation, often 2–3 feet per year when young.
