Care Instructions

Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade is best in Phoenix; intense reflected heat and all-day summer sun can scorch leaves.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then let the root zone dry completely; provide occasional supplemental water during prolonged summer heat. Water sparingly in winter and keep water out of the crown.

Soil: Excellent drainage is essential. Use gravelly or sandy soil, a raised mound, or a well-draining cactus mix in containers.

Mature size: About 3–4 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide, excluding the flower stalk.

Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, often after 10–20 years or longer. Flowering generally occurs in spring or summer; the flowering rosette then dies.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate, depending on warmth, drainage, and available moisture.
