Care Instructions

Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade in Phoenix; bright filtered shade also works. Avoid intense western exposure and reflected heat.

Water: Moderate water; irrigate deeply, then let the upper 1–2 inches of soil dry. Water more frequently during establishment and extreme summer heat; reduce watering in winter.

Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with compost; prefers slightly acidic to neutral conditions but tolerates mildly alkaline soil. Mulch the root zone, keeping mulch away from stems.

Mature size: Typically 10–20 feet tall on support and 5–10 feet wide; as groundcover, about 1–2 feet tall with a spreading habit.

Bloom: Mainly spring into early summer, with occasional lighter repeat flowering.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen; some leaves may bronze or redden during cold weather.

Growth rate: Moderate; often slow during establishment, then faster with adequate moisture and suitable exposure.
