Light: At least 6 hours of sun, preferably morning sun with afternoon shade. Avoid reflected heat from west-facing walls and pavement.
Water: Water deeply at the root zone, allowing the top 1–2 inches of soil to dry slightly between waterings. Increase frequency during extreme summer heat; reduce in winter. Avoid prolonged drought and soggy soil.
Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with compost; slightly acidic soil is ideal. Phoenix’s alkaline soils may require chelated iron if leaves yellow while veins remain green.
Mature size: Approximately 4–5 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide, depending on pruning and growing conditions.
Bloom: Repeat blooms from spring through fall, with the strongest displays in spring and autumn. Extreme summer heat can reduce flowering and flower quality.
Evergreen / deciduous: Deciduous; may remain partly leafy through mild Phoenix winters.
Growth rate: Moderate to fast with adequate water and nutrition.
