Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade in Phoenix; protect from intense reflected heat. Too much shade reduces flowering.
Water: Moderate to high water needs, especially during summer. Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged; reduce watering substantially during winter dormancy.
Soil: Rich, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil amended with compost. Mulch to conserve moisture and moderate summer soil temperatures.
Mature size: Approximately 2.5–4 feet tall and 1.5–2 feet wide; clumps gradually expand through rhizomes.
