Light: Full sun to light shade; afternoon shade is helpful near hot west-facing walls or reflected pavement heat in Phoenix.
Water: Moderate water in Phoenix. Water deeply, then allow the upper few inches of soil to dry; irrigate more frequently during establishment and extreme summer heat. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil: Well-drained soil; tolerates sandy or loamy soils. Avoid persistently wet roots. Phoenix’s alkaline soils may cause iron deficiency.
