Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade; protect from intense western exposure and reflected heat.
Water: Moderate to high water needs in Phoenix summers. Water deeply when the top 1–2 inches of soil begin to dry; keep the root zone evenly moist, not soggy. Reduce watering in winter.
Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with compost; slightly acidic to neutral preferred. Mulch to cool roots, keeping mulch away from the trunk.
Mature size: Typically 4–8 feet tall and 3–6 feet wide, depending on cultivar, pruning, and frost exposure; often smaller in containers.
Bloom: Repeated blooms from spring through fall; flowering may slow during extreme summer heat or cool winter weather.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen in frost-free conditions; may drop leaves or suffer stem dieback during Phoenix cold spells.
Growth rate: Moderate to fast with warm temperatures, adequate water, and regular feeding.
