Light: Full sun for best flowering and fruit production; light afternoon shade can reduce fruit sunburn in exposed Phoenix locations.
Water: Water deeply and regularly during establishment. Once established, allow the upper few inches of soil to dry between deep irrigations. Maintain consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development; drought tolerance does not mean reliable fruit production without irrigation.
Soil: Well-drained soil; tolerates sandy, loamy, clay, and moderately alkaline soils. Avoid waterlogged locations and address compacted soil or caliche that prevents drainage.
Mature size: 15–20 feet tall and 10–15 feet wide if unpruned; can be maintained smaller with selective pruning.
Bloom: Primarily spring into early summer, sometimes with scattered later flowers. Fruit generally ripens in fall, often October to November in Phoenix.
Evergreen / deciduous: Deciduous.
Growth rate: Moderate to fast with adequate irrigation.
