Care Instructions

Light: Full sun to light shade; afternoon shade helps prevent scorching of variegated foliage in Phoenix. Avoid intense reflected heat.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply but infrequently during hot, dry weather, allowing soil to dry thoroughly between waterings; water very little in winter.

Soil: Very well-drained sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil. Tolerates alkaline soil; use raised planting areas where drainage is poor.

Mature size: Approximately 4–6 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide; flowering stalk may reach 15–25 feet.

Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, usually after 15–25 years or longer. The flowering rosette dies afterward, but offsets may continue growing.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate, depending on warmth, moisture, and growing conditions.
