Light: Full sun to light shade; afternoon shade helps prevent scorching in Phoenix, especially near reflective walls.
Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then let soil dry thoroughly; occasional summer irrigation supports growth. Reduce watering substantially in winter and keep water out of the crown.
Soil: Very well-drained sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil; tolerates alkaline soils. Plant on a raised mound where drainage is poor.
Mature size: Typically 4–6 feet tall and 6–10 feet wide per rosette; colonies spread wider through offsets. Flower stalks can reach 20–30 feet.
Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, commonly after 15–30 years or longer. The flowering rosette dies afterward, but offsets usually survive.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate, depending on irrigation and growing conditions.
