Light: Full sun; morning sun with light afternoon shade is helpful in Phoenix, especially for young trees. Avoid hot west-facing walls.
Water: Deep, regular irrigation during the growing season, especially while fruit develops. Let the upper few inches of soil dry between waterings; avoid prolonged drought or saturated soil. Reduce watering substantially during winter dormancy.
Soil: Well-drained loam preferred; tolerates sandy and alkaline soils. Avoid poorly drained sites. Mulch the root zone, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.
Mature size: Typically 15–20 feet tall and wide if unpruned; can be maintained around 8–12 feet with regular pruning.
Bloom: Tiny flowers form inside developing figs during spring and summer and are not externally visible. The main fruit crop typically ripens in late summer into fall, depending on local conditions.
Evergreen / deciduous: Deciduous.
