Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal in Phoenix; avoid reflected heat from west-facing walls and pavement.

Water: Moderate water in Phoenix; water deeply, then allow the upper few inches of soil to dry. Established plants tolerate some drought but need supplemental summer irrigation; containers require more frequent watering.

Soil: Well-drained soil; loam preferred. Tolerates mildly alkaline soil but may develop nutrient deficiencies in highly alkaline conditions. Avoid persistently wet soil.

Mature size: Typically 10–25 feet tall and 8–15 feet wide in cultivated landscapes; can grow larger in favorable conditions or be maintained smaller with pruning.

Bloom: Small, inconspicuous flowers in spring; flowering may be limited on frequently clipped plants.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate.
