Description
A tropical foliage perennial with elongated leaves patterned in green, cream, and pink, with burgundy undersides. Best grown indoors in Phoenix rather than as a permanent outdoor landscape plant.
Light: Bright, indirect light or filtered shade. Protect from direct Phoenix sun, especially afternoon exposure.
Water: Keep soil lightly and evenly moist, watering when the top 1 inch begins to dry. Never leave standing in water. Use rainwater, distilled water, or low-mineral filtered water to reduce leaf-tip damage.
Soil: Rich, moisture-retentive but well-drained potting mix amended with perlite and fine orchid bark. Use a container with drainage holes.
Mature size: Typically 2–3 feet tall and 1–2 feet wide in containers; may reach 3–5 feet tall and spread wider in ideal tropical conditions.
Bloom: May flower in spring or summer under warm, humid conditions; flowering is uncommon indoors.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen tropical perennial; frost-tender and not reliably hardy outdoors in Zone 9b.
Growth rate: Moderate with warmth, humidity, and adequate indirect light; slower in dry or low-light conditions.
