Care Instructions

Light: Full sun to light shade; afternoon shade is beneficial in Phoenix, especially for young plants or those near heat-reflecting walls.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply but infrequently during hot weather, allowing soil to dry thoroughly between waterings. Reduce watering substantially in winter; avoid wetting the crown.

Soil: Excellent drainage is essential; sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil is suitable. Use raised planting areas where native soil drains poorly.

Mature size: Approximately 3–4 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide, excluding the flower stalk.

Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, usually after several decades. The flowering rosette dies afterward; any offsets can continue growing.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow.
