Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal in Phoenix; avoid intense reflected heat and exposed western locations.
Water: Water deeply, then let the upper several inches of soil dry. Established plants tolerate some drought; irrigate more often during extreme heat and sparingly in winter. Avoid soggy soil.
Soil: Very well-drained sandy or loamy soil. Use a raised planting area where drainage is poor; keep the crown above soil level.
Mature size: Typically 6–10 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide; very old specimens can reach 15 feet tall.
Bloom: Does not flower. Mature plants may produce reproductive structures intermittently, usually in late spring or summer, with male and female structures on separate plants.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Very slow; typically produces one new flush of fronds annually, sometimes more under favorable conditions.
