Care Instructions

Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade is best in Phoenix; avoid intense reflected heat and harsh western exposure.

Water: Water deeply, then allow the upper several inches of soil to dry. Established plants tolerate some drought but need supplemental summer irrigation in Phoenix. Reduce watering substantially in winter.

Soil: Well-drained sandy or loamy soil; avoid heavy, waterlogged conditions. Use a freely draining potting mix in containers.

Mature size: Typically 6–10 feet tall and 6–8 feet wide over many years; very old specimens can grow taller.

Bloom: Does not flower. Mature plants may produce reproductive structures intermittently, usually in late spring or summer; male and female structures occur on separate plants.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Very slow; typically produces one flush of new fronds annually, sometimes more under favorable conditions.
