Light: Full sun to partial shade; morning sun with afternoon shade is ideal in Phoenix, especially away from hot, reflective walls.
Water: Moderate water. Irrigate deeply, allowing the upper few inches of soil to dry between waterings. Water more frequently during establishment and extreme summer heat.
Soil: Well-drained soil enriched with compost. Tolerates varied soil textures but performs poorly in persistently wet soil.
Mature size: Approximately 20–30 feet tall or long and 10–20 feet wide with support; can be maintained smaller through pruning.
Bloom: Blooms intermittently from spring through fall, with flowering often strongest during milder weather.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen in mild winters; may lose leaves or suffer stem damage during freezes.
Growth rate: Fast with regular irrigation and suitable growing conditions.
