Care Instructions

Light: Full sun to light shade; in Phoenix, morning sun with afternoon shade helps prevent scorching during extreme summer heat.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then allow soil to dry between waterings; provide occasional supplemental summer irrigation in Phoenix and reduce watering substantially in winter.

Soil: Very well-drained, sandy or gravelly soil. Use raised beds or mounds where drainage is poor; avoid moisture-retentive potting mixes.

Mature size: Approximately 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide; flower stalks can reach 4–6 feet.

Bloom: Typically blooms in summer after reaching maturity; established plants can flower annually.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate, depending on warmth, drainage, and irrigation.
