Care Instructions

Light: Bright light with morning sun and afternoon shade in Phoenix; acclimate gradually to stronger sun to prevent scorching.

Water: Low water; water deeply, then let soil dry completely. Water sparingly during extreme summer heat if growth slows, and keep nearly dry during cool winter weather.

Soil: Very sharply drained, gritty soil with substantial mineral content, such as pumice or coarse gravel. Avoid moisture-retentive soil and standing water.

Mature size: Typically 10–20 feet tall and 3–6 feet wide when mature and branched; much smaller in containers.

Bloom: Mature plants may bloom in late spring or summer; flowering is uncommon in young or container-grown specimens.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen succulent.

Growth rate: Slow.
