Care Instructions

Light: Full sun to light shade; in Phoenix, afternoon shade helps prevent scorching, especially on young or newly planted specimens.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then let soil dry completely; provide occasional supplemental irrigation during prolonged summer heat. Keep nearly dry in winter.

Soil: Very well-drained, sandy or gravelly soil. Use raised beds or mounds in heavy soil and a gritty cactus mix in containers.

Mature size: Individual rosettes about 1–2 feet tall and 2–3 feet wide; established clumps can spread wider.

Bloom: Flowers in summer after reaching maturity, often after many years. Unlike most agaves, flowering does not necessarily kill the rosette.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate, depending on warmth and available moisture.
