Light: Full sun to partial shade; morning sun with afternoon shade is best in Phoenix to reduce scorching of the pale leaf centers.
Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then allow soil to dry thoroughly; occasional summer irrigation improves appearance. Water sparingly in winter and keep water out of the crown.
Soil: Very well-drained sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil. Use raised planting areas in heavy soil and a gritty cactus mix in containers.
Mature size: Typically 3–5 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide per rosette; offsetting colonies can spread wider.
Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, often after 15–30 years or longer. The flowering rosette dies afterward, but established offsets continue growing.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow.
