Care Instructions

Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade in Phoenix; protect from intense western exposure and reflected heat.

Water: Low water; soak thoroughly, then let soil dry completely before watering again. Water sparingly in winter and avoid watering cold, wet soil.

Soil: Very well-drained, gritty or sandy soil. Use a mineral-rich cactus mix in containers and raised planting areas where native soil drains poorly.

Mature size: Usually 6–12 inches tall and 2–3 feet wide, spreading farther with age.

Bloom: Showy flowers in spring, sometimes extending into early summer; established plants may produce many blooms at once.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen succulent with persistent green stems rather than foliage.

Growth rate: Moderate with warmth and appropriate watering; slower under very dry conditions.
