Light: Full sun for best flowering; avoid intense reflected heat from west-facing walls, especially for young trees.

Water: Deep, regular irrigation during establishment. Once established, water deeply and allow the upper soil to dry between waterings; supplemental summer irrigation is important in Phoenix.

Soil: Well-drained sandy or loamy soil preferred. Avoid waterlogged sites; strongly alkaline soils may cause iron chlorosis.

Mature size: Typically 30–50 feet tall and 25–40 feet wide, often smaller under desert conditions.

Bloom: Showy spring to early-summer bloom, typically April–June in Phoenix; occasional lighter repeat flowering.

Evergreen / deciduous: Semi-evergreen to deciduous; often loses leaves in winter or before spring flowering.

Growth rate: Moderate to fast with adequate warmth and irrigation.
