Care Instructions

Light: Bright indirect light indoors. Outdoors in Phoenix, provide bright filtered shade; protect from intense afternoon sun and reflected heat.

Water: Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil dry, then allow excess water to drain. Check shallow pots frequently during hot weather; reduce watering in winter. Do not leave standing in water.

Soil: Well-drained, aerated bonsai or container mix that retains some moisture; include pumice, perlite, or fine bark. Avoid dense garden soil.

Mature size: Typically maintained at 1–3 feet tall and wide as a container bonsai. Unrestricted Ficus microcarpa can become a large tree, exceeding 40 feet in frost-free climates.

Bloom: Rarely flowers or fruits in indoor or bonsai culture. Mature plants may produce tiny flowers concealed inside small fig-like structures.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen; may shed leaves following cold exposure, abrupt environmental changes, or watering stress.

Growth rate: Moderate in warm, bright conditions; slower indoors or when maintained as bonsai.
