Care Instructions

Light: Bright filtered shade or gentle early-morning sun with afternoon shade. Avoid intense summer sun, west-facing exposures, and reflected heat.

Water: Keep the root zone evenly moist but never soggy. Check frequently during summer, especially in containers; water when the surface begins to dry. Reduce watering in winter and mulch to conserve moisture, keeping mulch away from the stem.

Soil: Rich, well-drained, acidic soil with a pH around 5.0–6.0. Phoenix soils and irrigation water are often alkaline; containers with an acidic potting mix are usually easier to manage than native ground.

Mature size: Typically 3–4 feet tall and 3 feet wide; may reach 5 feet tall in favorable conditions.

Bloom: Heaviest bloom in spring, with repeat flowering into fall under favorable conditions. Extreme summer heat may interrupt flowering; not reliably everblooming in Phoenix.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Slow to moderate; often slower under Phoenix heat and alkaline conditions.
