Light: Bright light to partial sun; morning sun with afternoon shade is best in Phoenix. Acclimate gradually to stronger sun to prevent scorching.

Water: Low water; water thoroughly, then let soil dry completely. Reduce watering sharply in winter and during periods of heat-related dormancy; never leave roots wet.

Soil: Very well-drained, gritty soil with abundant pumice, gravel, or coarse mineral material. Use raised beds or containers with drainage holes.

Mature size: Typically 2–3 feet tall, forming clumps about 1–2 feet wide over time.

Bloom: Small, inconspicuous flowers generally appear in spring to summer on established plants.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen stem succulent; tiny leaves are short-lived and usually absent.
