Light: Full sun for best fruit production; light afternoon shade can reduce stress during extreme Phoenix summers.
Water: Moderate to high water needs during active growth and fruit development. Irrigate deeply across the root zone, allowing the upper few inches of soil to dry between waterings. Increase frequency during extreme heat; reduce watering during winter dormancy.
Soil: Well-drained sandy loam or loam. Avoid waterlogged soil and planting over impermeable caliche without addressing drainage. Alkaline Phoenix soils may require treatment for iron deficiency.
Mature size: Approximately 12–20 feet tall and wide, depending on rootstock; can be maintained around 8–12 feet with regular pruning.
Bloom: Late winter to early spring, often February–March in Phoenix; timing varies with winter temperatures.
Evergreen / deciduous: Deciduous.
Growth rate: Moderate to fast with adequate irrigation and nutrition.
