Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade in Phoenix; protect from intense reflected heat and scorching summer sun.
Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then let soil dry thoroughly; provide occasional supplemental water during Phoenix summers and very little in winter.
Soil: Excellent drainage is essential; use gritty cactus mix or plant in a raised mound. Avoid heavy, persistently wet soil.
Mature size: Approximately 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, sometimes larger under favorable conditions.
Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, usually after many years; timing varies. The flowering rosette dies afterward, but any offsets survive.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Slow to moderate with warmth and appropriate watering.
