Care Instructions

Light: Full sun for best flowering, with at least 6 hours daily. In Phoenix, avoid intense reflected heat; light late-afternoon shade can reduce summer stress.

Water: Moderate water in Phoenix. Water deeply and regularly during establishment; once established, allow the upper several inches of soil to dry between deep irrigations. Provide supplemental water during extreme summer heat.

Soil: Well-drained soil; tolerates clay, loam, or sand if drainage is adequate. Phoenix’s highly alkaline soils may cause iron chlorosis.

Mature size: Approximately 15–25 feet tall and 10–15 feet wide.

Bloom: Summer through early fall, generally June–September in Phoenix; flowering may slow during extreme heat or drought.

Evergreen / deciduous: Deciduous.

Growth rate: Moderate to fast with adequate water and suitable growing conditions.
