Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade in Phoenix; protect young trees with 30–50% shade cloth during extreme summer heat. Avoid reflected heat from walls and pavement.
Water: Water deeply, then allow the upper few inches of soil to dry slightly. Irrigate more frequently during summer and fruit development, less in winter; avoid prolonged drought and standing water.
Soil: Well-drained soil, preferably slightly acidic. Phoenix alkalinity can cause nutrient deficiencies; use mulch and appropriate micronutrients, and plant on a broad mound if drainage is poor.
Mature size: Approximately 10–20 feet tall and 8–15 feet wide if unpruned; can be maintained around 6–10 feet tall with regular pruning.
Bloom: Usually late winter through spring; frost or cool weather can damage flowers and reduce fruit set.
