Light: Full sun preferred; tolerates light shade but flowers less and develops a looser shape.
Water: Low water once established; water deeply and let soil dry between irrigations. In Phoenix, occasional deep watering during prolonged summer drought improves appearance. Water more regularly during establishment.
Soil: Very well-drained sandy, gravelly, or rocky soil; tolerates alkaline soil. Avoid poorly drained clay and excessive fertilization.
Mature size: Typically 4–6 feet tall and 4–6 feet wide; older, unpruned plants may spread wider.
Bloom: Intermittent flushes from late spring through fall, especially during humid monsoon weather and after rain.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen in typical Phoenix conditions; may lose some foliage during unusually cold weather or severe drought.
Growth rate: Moderate; slower with minimal irrigation.
