Light: Full sun to light shade; afternoon shade is beneficial near heat-reflecting walls or paving in Phoenix.
Water: Low water once established; water deeply, then let soil dry thoroughly. Provide occasional supplemental summer irrigation and reduce watering in winter.
Soil: Very well-drained sandy or gravelly soil; use cactus mix in containers and avoid soggy or compacted planting sites.
Mature size: 12–18 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide; spreading colonies may grow wider.
Bloom: Primarily late winter through spring; occasional additional blooms are possible.
Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.
Growth rate: Moderate with warmth and occasional irrigation; slower under very dry conditions.
