Care Instructions

Light: Morning sun with afternoon shade is best in Phoenix; avoid intense reflected heat and unfiltered western exposure.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then let the root zone dry thoroughly; provide occasional supplemental summer irrigation and reduce watering substantially in winter.

Soil: Excellent drainage is essential; use sandy or gravelly soil or a raised planting area. Avoid heavy, persistently wet soil and keep the crown above grade.

Mature size: Approximately 2–3 feet tall and 3–4 feet wide, excluding the flower stalk; offset colonies can spread wider.

Bloom: Blooms once at maturity, generally after many years. Timing varies with growing conditions; the flowering rosette dies afterward, while offsets can continue growing.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Moderate with warmth and appropriate irrigation; slower under very dry conditions.
