Care Instructions

Light: Full sun to partial shade; morning sun with afternoon shade is best during Phoenix’s intense summer heat.

Water: Moderate to high water use; keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water deeply and frequently during extreme heat, especially in containers; reduce watering during winter dormancy.

Soil: Rich, moisture-retentive, well-drained soil amended with compost. Mulch to conserve moisture and cool roots, keeping mulch away from the crown.

Mature size: Approximately 2–4 feet tall and 1–2 feet wide; rhizomes gradually expand the clump.

Bloom: Repeated blooms from late spring through fall; flowering may slow during extreme summer heat.

Evergreen / deciduous: Tender herbaceous perennial; foliage dies back with frost but may remain green through mild winters. Rhizomes generally overwinter outdoors in Zone 9b.

Growth rate: Fast during warm weather with adequate moisture and nutrients.
