Care Instructions

Light: Full sun; at least 6 hours daily for best flowering. Light afternoon shade is helpful in reflected-heat locations in Phoenix.

Water: Low to moderate water once established. Water deeply, then let the upper several inches of soil dry before watering again. New plants and containers need more frequent watering during Phoenix summers.

Soil: Very well-drained soil; sandy or gravelly soil is suitable. Avoid soggy sites, and use a freely draining potting mix in containers.

Mature size: Typically maintained at 4–8 feet tall and wide as a bush; vigorous plants can reach 10–20 feet with support, depending on cultivar and pruning.

Bloom: Repeated bloom cycles from spring through fall, often strongest in spring and fall in Phoenix. Flowering may continue during mild winters.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen in frost-free conditions; may become partly or fully deciduous after cold weather or drought in Zone 9b.

Growth rate: Fast during warm weather with adequate moisture.
