Care Instructions

Light: Full sun to partial shade; tolerates Phoenix sun once acclimated, but afternoon shade helps near hot walls or reflected pavement.

Water: Low water once established. Water deeply, then let soil dry thoroughly; provide occasional supplemental irrigation during prolonged Phoenix summer heat. Reduce watering in winter.

Soil: Very well-drained sandy or gravelly soil. Use cactus/succulent mix in containers; avoid poorly drained clay or planting in low spots.

Mature size: 12–18 inches tall and 18–24 inches wide; spreading colonies can eventually grow wider. Flower stalks rise above the foliage.

Bloom: Primarily late winter through early spring, with occasional flowering at other times.

Evergreen / deciduous: Evergreen.

Growth rate: Moderate; forms clumps faster with appropriate supplemental water.
