African Sumac
Rhus Lancea
The African Sumac is a slow growing rounded tree.
It is an evergreen tree and is very drought tolerant. It tolerates even reflected heat in Arizona. After it is established it needs little water.
The African Sumac has scented greenish yellow flowers. The female trees flowers are followed by edible fruit. The fruit and seeds tend to make this a slightly messy tree.
It grows to 25 feet high and 25 feet wide and is hardy to 20 degrees F.
This description is based on our observations and research of this plant growing in our hot Arizona climate. We would love hearing from anyone who has any additional experience with this plant in Arizona.
